After today’s reaction to the new icons in iOS 7, I thought it would be fitting to link this conversation from 2008 between Vic Gundotra and Steve Jobs:
“I’ve been looking at the Google logo on the iPhone and I’m not happy with the icon. The second O in Google doesn’t have the right yellow gradient. It’s just wrong and I’m going to have Greg fix it tomorrow. Is that okay with you?”
Of course this was okay with me. A few minutes later on that Sunday I received an email from Steve with the subject “Icon Ambulance”. The email directed me to work with Greg Christie to fix the icon.
Where was the Icon Ambulance today?

That said, there was also a hot debate over the iTunes 10 icon. Many hated it, but Steve disagreed.
Yeah, very good point. It’s not the design or style I dislike, just the apparent lack of consistency between the system icons and some of the UI (Square numbers for the calculator, round numbers for the lock screen). I guess I will just have to wait and use it 🙂
